Hey there, traveler! 👋
If you’re coming to beautiful Málaga and staying with us at Málaga Sun Apartments, there’s one important thing to know before driving into the city centre: the Low Emission Zone (ZBE). Don’t worry — it’s not complicated! Here’s everything you need to know so you can arrive stress-free and avoid any fines 😉
🌿 What Is the ZBE?
The ZBE (Zona de Bajas Emisiones) is an area in central Málaga where only low-emission vehicles are allowed to drive.
The idea is to make the city centre cleaner, quieter, and more enjoyable — more space for walking, open-air cafés, and relaxed sightseeing 🚶♀️☕️🌴.
👉 In short:
- Cars with a CERO, ECO, or C environmental sticker from the DGT can drive in without issues.
- Cars without a sticker (usually older vehicles) will not be allowed in the centre starting December 1, 2025.
Until that date, there are no fines yet, but it’s good to get used to the new rules early.
🗺️ Where Is the Zone?
The ZBE covers Málaga’s historic centre and the surrounding streets — including Calle Larios, Alameda Principal, Plaza de la Marina, Carretería, the Soho area, and more.
Basically, it’s the area where most of the city’s attractions (and our apartments!) are located.

(Tip: open it on your phone or check Google Maps before arriving so you know which streets are inside the zone.)
🅿️ If Your Accommodation Has Parking…
Before driving into the city, make sure to check if your car can access the Low Emission Zone and which streets you can use.
Each accommodation or parking facility may have different access permissions.
At Málaga Sun Apartments, we want you to enjoy your stay without any unpleasant surprises 🙈
So please:
- Let us know in advance if you’re coming by car 🚘
- Check the official ZBE map
- Verify your vehicle’s environmental sticker
That way, you’ll avoid any problems (and possible €200 fines) and can start your trip with peace of mind!
🅿️ Parking Options Nearby
If you prefer not to drive through the centre, there are several public car parks just outside the restricted zone — all within easy walking distance of Málaga Sun Apartments:
- Parking Plaza de la Marina
- Parking Muelle Uno (great if you’d like to arrive with a sea view 🌊)
From any of these, it’s only 5–10 minutes on foot to our apartments — no traffic stress, no narrow streets, and no fines!
📅 Important Dates
- Until 30 November 2025: You can still drive into the zone without being fined (although signs are already in place).
- From December 1, 2025: Automatic fines will begin for cars that don’t meet emission standards.
💡 Quick Tips for Getting Around Málaga
- Renting a car? Ask for a hybrid or electric (ECO or CERO) model.

- Málaga is a walkable city — most attractions are within 10–15 minutes on foot.
