Welcome to the capital of the province of Malaga! If it is your first time in Malaga and you don’t want to buy in the typical tourist supermarkets, this is your blog!

Today we show you the 4 oldest and most frequented markets by every good malaguita. Here you will find the ideal place to shop and try local products from the area:

  • Mercado Salamanca: Located in the El Molinillo neighborhood. This market preserves the original aesthetic, both outside the building and inside. Organized by streets, we can find fishmonger, fruit and vegetable stalls… where many of the people of Malaga gather to do their shopping.
  • Mercado de la Merced: This place, located just 1 minute from Plaza de la Merced, is one of the biggest unknowns in the city. So if you are going to visit this famous square in the capital, don’t forget to walk about 1-2 minutes and you will be able to enjoy many of the local products of the area at local prices.
  • Mercado Central de Atarazanas: The most famous market of the 4, and therefore the representative of the entire city. It is also the main meeting point between travelers and locals, where this mixture produces as a result a mix of culture, customs and also a greater variety of products on offer. Of course without forgetting that it is located in the heart of Malaga.
  • Mercado el Carmen: Finally, the Carmen market. A short distance from the María Zambrano Station (train station), just 5 minutes walk. This place offers a greater range of bars/restaurants than food stalls (predominantly fishmongers). A special and unique place that connects local products with delicious and traditional Malaga dishes (as well as its very affordable price).
